What to Expect at True North

A New Beginning:

We are a new church and had our first service on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007. Most of the people you will meet are new believers who call True North their first church home. So, if you are looking for a new beginning and real people, this is the place to be.

A Hospitable Environment:

When you arrive at True North, you will find a friendly atmosphere where someone is always there to make you feel welcome. But maybe you’re thinking, “I’m not a morning person and don’t really want to see anyone at that hour!” Out of consideration for our non-morning people we always have a hot cup of coffee and a continental breakfast waiting on you. Our goal is to provide a warm, hospitable environment where you will always be accepted regardless of what race, class or time-of-day preference you may lay claim to.

Dress Is Not An Issue:

People are shallow and often judge us based on our outward appearance. But God is concerned with with what you look like on the inside (I Samuel 16:7). So following God’s example, dress is not an issue at True North. It is certainly fitting to wear what will be most honoring to God as we gather for worship. So you are encouraged to dress up if that is you. Only, do it for the eyes of the Lord and not for the eyes of man. With that said, you will find that dress is very casual for most people at True North. This is good in that nobody can use the excuse that they don’t have anything to wear. You can think of True North as the No Judgment Zone because you will always feel right at home whether your best clothes are shorts & T-shirt, Dickies painter pants, or a nicely pressed suit.

Worshipful Music:

You’ll find that our music sounds contemporary, but our faith is traditional. We aim to select hymns and praise choruses that are God-centered because we are singing to God; He is our audience of One. We also make sure that our selections are Scripture-saturated because music is after all one of the most effective teaching tools we have. The Bible even commands us to see to it that our music reflects the word of Christ saying: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God” (Colossians 3:16).

Expositional (verse-by-verse) Teaching:

Our pastor teaches verse-by-verse through the Bible because he holds the presupposition that God’s word (the Bible) is our sole authority for living and interacting with the watching world. You cannot go wrong with verse-by-verse teaching when II Timothy 3:16 tells us that “All scripture is inspired by God” (”inspired” literally means “God-breathed”). As you hear our pastor teach, we hope you will find that although the Bible is more than 2,000 years old, it is always relevant and up to date because its author, Jesus Christ, schedules every date; He is the same “yesterday, today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

When you come to True North Baptist Church, we hope you will notice that we treat God’s Word as our compass because it always points to True North, which is Jesus Christ, the only reference point available who can lead you to safe harbor in the arms of God (John 14:6).

Unfortunately, as sinners, we have all thrown this compass to the wind, desiring to be free of its constraints. Yet, without it, we have hopelessly ended up flotsam and jetsam; shipwrecked on the sea of life. However, when one receives Jesus Christ, and for the first time discovers the value of this compass, they are led to safe harbor as the Holy Spirit enables them to trust and obey God’s perfect law revealed therein (Romans 8:4).

Maybe God has opened your eyes and caused you to see your own inability to navigate the waters of this disorienting age without a True North. You can ask God to save you right now even as you sit at your computer. Scroll up to the menu bar and click on “Become a Christian” to read straight out of the Bible how you can pray and ask God to save you right now.

A Convenient Time and Place:

We meet in the Oceanway Middle School, located at 143 Oceanway Ave. on Jacksonville’s Northside. We hold bible study every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. followed by worship at 11:00 a.m. Sunday school is also provided for children: infant age – the Sixth grade.

We also have Wednesday night bible study each week at 7:00 p.m.

We certainly hope you will pay us a visit this upcoming Lord’s day! Feel free to call or email our Pastor, Jeremy Blythe, with any questions you may have:
